PERFECT Chocolate Pumpkin Donuts10

Perfect chocolate donuts, every time!

These perfect chocolate-y pumpkin-y baked donuts are so moist, flavorful and aromatic, they’re a snap to make and pair perfectly with tea or coffee..or hot milk! Yum. And although there’s pumpkin in there, you can’t taste it. I mean if you hate pumpkin then you won’t be able to tell – but if you love it, then you’ll appreciate the hint of delicious autumnal flavors in these donuts.

Donuts have such a bad rap and rightly so. They’re fried and the ingredients aren’t always the most desirable. But having a fried donut here and there isn’t a big deal. Guilty pleasures do exist for a reason ;)

But who wants fried when you can have these Perfectly Baked Chocolate Pumpkin Donuts?! Now that’s what I’m talking about.

Baked, not fried.

I personally avoid frying and hardly do it at home since fried foods wreak havoc on sensitive gastrointestinal tracts. I actually can’t remember the last time I’ve fried anything in the last few years. It’s just not something I care for. Sure the taste is there – let’s be real, anything fried tastes great, but other than that, it’s messy, the oil splatters everywhere, and clean up afterwards (for me) is a nightmare, aaaaand it isn’t healthy. So why bother.

Enter these freakin’ amazing baked morsels of goodness. The title says it all really. They’re baked to perfection. The flavors are bang on. The taste is so good it’d be a crime not to make them. You can’t mess this recipe up either. All my recipes work that way and I hope that you feel the same too.

Why you’re going to love these donuts too

The first time I made these donuts I never told the kids or husband (he hates pumpkin) what was in them. They loved them so much they fought over the last piece. So so good. Then the extended family tried them. Loved. Then friends. Loved. When you’re asked to come over and bring donuts “if you have any left” – ie bake some before you step foot in our house – you know it’s a recipe worth sharing.

I’ve made 4 batches this past weekend alone. Sounds crazy but it was a breeze. This recipe is foolproof and you’re going to love it. One bowl, a whisk and a spatula. Really that’s all you need. Oh and the pan and like the ingredients to make them. But that goes without saying. Just saying.

Easy 1 bowl recipe!

My recipes have become a one-bowl and whisk/spatula kind of affair (for the most part). I’ve stopped using my KitchenAid except for specific tasks that I’m unable to do by hand such as grinding my meats and whipping up pretty icing. Once I figure out how to do both things, I think it’ll be sayonara to my mixer!

Maybe more time at the gym…?

This easy to make, 1 bowl Chocolate Pumpkin Donuts recipe is allergy friendly – it’s free from:

  • dairy

  • egg

  • soy

  • peanut

  • tree nuts

  • fish

  • shellfish

  • sesame

  • mustard

  • animal products and by products

Ingredients

Chocolate Pumpkin Donuts

Chocolate Glaze

Sprinkles, crushed cookies, coconut shreds for topping. {Optional}

    Instructions

    1. 1Preheat oven to 375F. Grease and lightly dust donut pan with cocoa powder. Set aside.
    2. 2In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, salt, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Add sugar and whisk very well until all ingredients are fully combined.
    3. 3Add pumpkin purée and all liquid ingredients and use a spatula to stir the mixture until batter is well combined.
    4. 4Divide batter evenly and fill each donut cavity using a spoon or ice cream scoop - fill to the top. Smooth batter using the spoon before placing in the oven.
    5. 5Bake for 15 minutes, until a toothpick or knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Remove pan and allow donuts to cool a few minute before placing donuts on a wire rack to cool completely. {see notes}

    To make Chocolate Glaze

    1. 1In a bowl, combine all ingredients and whisk vigorously until glaze is silky smooth. Spoon over donuts or dunk/dip top of donuts into glaze before placing back on wire rack or serving.
    2. 2If desired, top with crushed cookies, sprinkles, coconut shreds, etc. immediately after dipping donuts into chocolate glaze.

    Notes

    You can dip your donuts as soon as they come out of the oven, but the glaze will be very thin and will soak into the donuts. Serve warm - deliciously gooey good!! Otherwise, wait until the donuts have cooled completely before dunking into the chocolate glaze. Chocolate glaze yields just over ½ cup. Calories: 187 kcal
