This waffle recipe is by far the best one you’re going to come across! Their slightly crispy exterior is met with a fluffy interior to give you the best flavour combination and texture! It’s been a long time in the making (3+ years!) and I’m so happy to be able to share it with you today!
Let’s jump right in!
Best Fluffy Waffles
Every Saturday, my kids ask for waffles, and every Saturday I ask them if we can make pancakes instead. That’s because I never liked how I was making my waffles and I just found pancakes to be so much easier!
But that never stopped me from trying to perfect my recipe. I know how much Munsur and Sofia love waffles, so of course I had to get it right. I’ve tried so many things, less oil, more baking soda, omitting baking powder, adding vinegar, etc. And during that time, my waffles came out either too soft, too hard, tasteless, and even stuck to the pan! That last one drove me nuts every single time!!
That’s why I’m so happy that it finally worked out. Like really happy :D so happy in fact, that I make more waffles than pancakes :)

What’s in these fluffy waffles
The ingredients in these waffles are as follows:
flour: I used all-purpose flour to make these waffles
baking powder: helps the waffles rise and add texture
baking soda: also helps with the rise and the browning
sea salt: balances the ingredients and brings out the best flavour
honey: imparts slight natural sweetness to the waffles
water and allergy friendly milk: blends ingredients and helps batter become smooth
oil: helps to soften the inside of the waffle giving it a fluffy interior while also providing a nice crispness to the outside of the waffle! So good!
These staple ingredients come together to make the best batter to make waffles! You’re going to love them, I promise!

FAQ’s
Can I make this batter ahead of time?
Of course! Feel free to make this batter ahead and keep in the fridge for up to 2 days. I wouldn’t leave it any longer because I worry it won’t taste right. But you can definitely make it a day ahead!
What can I use in place of milk in this recipe?
You can use water if you don’t want to use milk or don’t have any on hand. The milk adds a bit of richness to the batter, especially depending on what type of milk you use. Some alternative milks have a higher fat content which would yield a richer batter. Either way, you’ll end up with a great tasting waffle if you use water alone.
How long do these waffles keep for?
These waffles should keep for 4-5 days in the fridge. I personally haven’t had any waffle last more than the next day. To bring them back to a “freshly made” texture, pop them in the toaster oven or back into the waffle maker, or even in the oven to heat up and bring them back to life, so to speak. The microwave isn’t recommended because it’ll make the waffle soft and limp. But if that doesn’t bother you, then you can use that too.
Can I use butter instead of oil?
You certainly can, although I don’t personally make my waffles with butter so I can’t comment on the final outcome of the waffle. You would need to melt the butter (allergy friendly, of course ;)) and add that to your batter as instructed in the recipe card. The texture would be softer than if you were to use oil.
What can I substitute honey with?
If you don’t want to use honey, you can substitute with a liquid sweetener of choice in the same quantity.
How long do I cook the waffles for?
Cooking time depends on the brand of your waffle maker and the temperature setting you choose. I have my waffle maker set to cook my waffles for 4 minutes. You’ll need to experiment with your waffle maker to get the desired doneness.
Do I need to grease my waffle plates before baking my waffles in the waffle maker?
There is enough oil in the batter that you don’t need to grease the waffle maker beforehand! I’ve never had to grease my waffle plates with this recipe!
What’s the best way to reheat my leftover waffles?
The best way I found is to heat up the waffle maker and put the left over waffles in it. Alternatively, you can use a toaster oven, or the oven. Preheat the oven to 300F and place the waffles on a parchment lined pan and warm up for approximately 5 minutes to heat them up. I don’t recommend using the microwave because it tends to make the waffles soggy (speaking from past experience as I haven’t owned a microwave in over 12 years!).
What toppings can I add to my waffles?
You can add whatever toppings you like! We keep it healthy by washing some berries and whatever fruits I have in the house. My husband loves peanut butter on his waffles, I love honey on mine, Sofia loves maple syrup, and Munsur loves adding shredded style cheese to his! Some people add whipped cream, caramel, chocolate! Anything you crave can be added to your waffles.

Instructions
- 1Preheat your waffle maker. Preheat oven to 250F. This is to keep waffles warm while you finish cooking all the waffles.
- 2In a large bowl, add dry ingredients and whisk well to combine.
- 3Add liquid ingredients and whisk vigorously until batter is smooth and free of lumps.
- 4Once waffle maker is ready, divide batter evenly (I dropped a small ladle-full per waffle cavity) and cook waffles according to your waffle maker. Mine take about 4 minutes per batch.
- 5Remove waffles from the waffle maker and serve immediately or you can place the cooked waffles in the oven to keep warm while you continue to cook the rest of the batter.
- 6Serve with your favourite toppings. We love to add fresh fruit, yogurt, honey, and maple syrup.
Notes
This batter is slightly thick which is the perfect consistency to make waffles. They come out perfectly cooked on the outside and have a fluffy inside. I love waffles because their pockets are perfect for housing maple syrup or honey, and of course, fruit! When I make waffles, I sometimes turn my oven on so that it can keep them warm while I finish up the batter. You don't have to do this but it helps the waffles not turn soft/soggy. You can choose any light cooking oil you have at home. I would stay away from using all olive oil because it tends to impart an olive-y taste. Since I love using olive oil in my foods, I decided to add it in this recipe along with avocado oil so that it neutralizes its flavours. This is the best allergy friendly waffle recipe you're going to find. It took me such a long time and many attempts to get this recipe just right! So I hope you love it as much as my family does!
