Easy + Delicious Crème Brûlée

The easiest and most delectable crème brûlée! Made free from dairy, egg, peanut, tree nuts, and wheat/gluten. You're going to love this one!!

JUST kindly provided me with their JUST Egg product to create a recipe with. All opinions expressed are entirely my own. Enjoy this awesomeness I call: the best ever Crème Brûlée!! :)

You guys are going to flip over this super easy to make and totally delicious Crème Brûlée!!!

Let’s get right to it!

A true classic

Crème brûlée is one of my all time favorite desserts. My mom used to make it for us every week (she also made crème  caramel which is the upside down version of crème brûlée!) as well as her lemon bundt cake that I still dream about to this day.

The only thing about this dessert is that it’s an egg based dish combined with heavy cream. Both of which my kids can’t have.

So making crème brûlée has been on my to-make list for a long long time. And I actually did it except I never posted the recipe because life got a little extra busy the last few months.

But when I was asked if I’d be interested in trying out the JUST Egg product, I happily accepted. And the first thing I thought to make with it was, yep, crème brûlée!! So, I adjusted my original recipe (which I’ll be posting here soon!) to add the JUST Egg and see for myself if it would work.

What is JUST?

JUST is an innovative company that makes great plant-based products that are better for you and the environment. This is from their site;

“Our plant-based JUST Egg uses 98% less water, has a 93% smaller carbon footprint, and uses 86% less land than conventional animal sources. It is one of the most sustainable protein sources on the planet.”

One of products I used is their JUST Egg, a liquid miracle inside a bottle.

How so?

Well, it looks like liquified egg yolks, it scrambles like eggs when heated, and it thickens like eggs do.

I definitely had my reservations so that’s why I said if I can pull my recipe off using this product, then I’m sold!

And you guys, it did exactly what I wanted it to :D

Check out these amaze desserts I know you’ll love too! Raspberry Lemon Roll, Fudgy Avocado Brownies, Mock Ferrero Bliss Bites!

Free from the bad and full of the good

This recipe is free from the following:

  • dairy

  • egg

  • peanut

  • tree nuts

  • wheat/gluten

In about 30 minutes you’ll have made the most incredible crème brûlée that’s allergy friendly (as always) and plant based! Win win :)

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 325F. Have 6 ramekins or oven-safe shallow bowls ready and sitting in a deep baking dish. Set aside.
  2. 2Add all the ingredients in a high speed blender and blitz on medium high until everything comes together nicely.
  3. 3Pour mixture in a medium sauce pan/pot on medium heat. Stir continuously using a wooden spoon to ensure custard doesn't burn. In about 6 minutes, you'll notice the custard thicken and become light and fluffy in texture and turn a pretty pale yellow. And it should coat the back of your spoon nicely. Remove from heat.
  4. 4Divide the hot custard evenly into ramekins.
  5. 5Carefully pour the hot water into the deep dish to surround the ramekins so that it comes up just over half-way to the top.
  6. 6Gently and carefully place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes. You're looking for a bit of wiggle in the centre when you give the dish a wiggle! Please see notes.
  7. 7Remove from the oven and allow the ramekins to cool in the dish. Then place in the fridge to cool completely.
  8. 8When wanting to serve, remove the crème brûlée and allow it to come to room temp a bit, about 10-15 minutes or so. And just before serving, sprinkle about a tablespoon of sugar on top of the custard and using a food torch, caramelize the sugar until it solidifies! Serve immediately.

Notes

This recipe is going to become a favorite in your home! Because every oven heats slightly differently, check your crème brûlée at 20 minutes to see if the custard has set. Keep this in mind, if you jiggle and it wiggles, remove from the oven! If you jiggle the dish and the custard is still liquid-y, keep it in the oven for the additional 5 minutes. The perfect time for me is 25 minutes :) Remember that your custard will continue to thicken and set as it cools. I super highly encourage you to get a kitchen torch, it's fun to use and it really comes in handy for dishes such as this one! But if you don't have one and want to make this deliciousness (I don't blame you!!) then do the following: After sprinkling the sugar, place the ramekins in the oven under the broil and keep an eye on it!!! Make sure it doesn't totally burn the sugar. You want a nice caramelized color :) Calories: 241 kcal
