Crispy outside and juicy inside, these roast chicken legs are so easy to make and absolutely delicious! Made priority allergens free.
Roast chicken legs is such an easy, effortless way to make a delicious dinner. In this post, I’m going to show you how to roast chicken legs so they come out perfectly crispy and juicy every time.
You ready?!
Roasted Chicken Legs
Roasting chicken is one of my favourite ways to cook chicken. The skin gets crispy and the meat is so tender, it literally falls off the bone. And chicken legs are an easy meal to make, and they always taste delicious.
This is a favourite recipe for so many of you which is why I’ve updated it with better pictures and write up. I’ve also included an FAQ section to help answer the questions I get asked from time to time about cooking chicken this way (roasting).
What I love about this recipe is how easy it is to make. Whenever I feel stuck on what to make, I automatically think roast chicken!

What’s in these roasted chicken legs
These roast chicken legs have a few simple staple ingredients that are added to give you the best possible flavours. All you need is olive oil, Herbes de Provence or a similar herb, and sea salt! Pepper is optional; it would give more flavour to the chicken but I don’t always add it to my foods because my kids find it a bit spicy. But if you like it, feel free to add it!
FAQs
What did you update in the recipe?
The biggest thing I updated was the images and writing. This recipe was originally titled “Roast Chicken Backs with Legs”, but I found that it’s not always easy to find that specific cut; and this recipe can be used with legs, thighs, or both! Whatever cut you have, you can use this recipe to make them. It’s a fool proof, delicious, and simple few steps to get the best, most tender chicken pieces ever!
What can I use instead of Herbes de Provence?
You can use in the same amount indicated in the recipe card: oregano, Italian seasoning, or thyme. Herbes de Provence is a mixture of a few herbs that typically include thyme, basil, rosemary, tarragon, savory, marjoram, and oregano. Tarragon is a favourite of mine; I actually used it along with oregano when I made the chicken pictured in this recipe!
I have another cut of meat, can I cook the chicken the same way?
Yes! You can use the legs, thighs, back with legs, etc. Cooking time is the same as what’s indicated in the recipe card.
Why don’t you cover the chicken? Won’t that dry out the chicken?
I don’t cover my chicken because I cook it on high heat. What that does is seal the outer layer of the chicken, crisping the outside while protecting the inside and creating the most perfect tender meat! If you cover the chicken, you won’t get crispy skin. It all depends on the texture you’re after.
Can I make this recipe ahead?
I recommend you bake it when you’re ready to eat it but you can definitely prep ahead. Add the ingredients into the bowl, massage the chicken, then cover with plastic wrap and pop in the fridge. When you’re ready to cook it, take out the bowl from the fridge about 30 minutes or so and allow to sit on your countertop before you bake.
How long do these chicken keep?
They’ve honestly never lasted more than the next day for us, but chicken usually keeps for 4-5 days. The earlier you eat it the better, of course.
Why you’re going to love this recipe
This roasted chicken legs recipe is so easy to make and fool proof! It takes a few minutes to prep and the rest is done by your oven. How easy is that! It’s also made free from priority allergens which means it’s free from;
dairy
egg
nuts
soy
wheat
fish
sesame
All you do is season the chicken according to the recipe card, place chicken on a parchment lined baking sheet – you don’t need the parchment but it makes for easy clean up, and bake. That’s it. While the chicken legs are baking, make your sides. I love serving these with salad, roasted vegetables sometimes, rice other times, and hummus – always hummus dip because Munsur loves his chicken with it! Sofia loves ketchup :)
