Oh ya, I went there :D

Use this filling in pies and tarts, as a spread, and if you’re feeling adventurous, as is straight out of the jar! Exciting stuff I know. So, let’s get started!

Warm weather = farmers’ markets!!

Every year during the summer months, I look forward to the farmers’ markets. And now that my kids are older, they enjoy the same experience. There’s such a difference between shopping at a grocery store versus directly from your farmer; and I definitely love the latter.

When I buy from farmers, I’m getting the best freshest produce at a great price. You’re helping your local farmers continue to do their incredible work, and you’re avoiding all those hands in the middle that don’t need to be there.

On one of my trips to the market, I bought sweet cherries and knew exactly what I wanted to make with them. The kids were just as excited as I was to get started. My husband, not so much :)

My kitchen was filled with sweet tasty aromas!! All I kept thinking about was how long it was going to take before it cooled enough for me to try it. Trust me, this is a winner. I promise.

This deliciously easy to make filling is free from the following:

  • dairy

  • egg

  • peanut

  • tree nuts

  • soy

  • wheat/gluten

  • fish/shellfish

  • sesame

  • mustard

  • animal products

  • sugar

Different crusts, same delicious filling!

The first time I made this cherry pie filling, I paired it with the tart crust from my Lemon Meringue Pie recipe and it worked really well. Then I made a chocolate crust to see how it would taste with it, and wouldn’t you know it, it worked beautifully! You can’t beat a cherry chocolate combo! Never ever. This filling would also be absolutely delicious with a graham cracker and shortbread crust (currently testing a recipe for that as we speak, so stay tuned :))

Sweet talk

You guys know how I feel about sugar, so anytime I try to make anything, I attempt to make it sugar free first; usually using either honey or maple syrup – depending on what I’m trying to achieve. Sometimes, sugar is the best and only answer to getting that perfect texture and flavour, in which case I throw my hands up and say I tried.

Any way you slice it {pun intended!} this zero sugar, completely top allergy free cherry pie filling is pure perfection. Can’t wait for you to give this recipe a try!! Please let me know what you think by leaving a comment below and rating the recipe too!

And don’t forget!

Stay in touch with me on my social pages, instagram and facebook! I’m on there daily, sharing what I’m making and I also pick a recipe from my blog every week or so, and go LIVE to show you step-by-step instructions on how to make it! So be sure to follow me there so we can mingle, my friends :)

Happy pie filling making! xx

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and using a wooden spoon or a spatula, gently stir until everything is fully combined.
  2. 2Place cherry mix in a large pan and cook on medium high heat to start, stirring constantly. Once the mixture begins to boil, lower the temp to medium heat, and continue cooking and stirring until the liquid thickens nicely. A few minutes or so.
  3. 3Remove from heat and allow cherry filling to cool completely before adding to your favorite pie crust recipe or storing it in the fridge. Store leftover in a lidded jar or container in the fridge. Keeps very well for weeks.

Notes

This recipe yields 3.5 cups/28oz/800ml of cherry pie filling. I've filled 3 pie crusts so far and I still have a bit left over to make a small/medium tart. It all depends on how big your pie crust is to begin with and how much filling you add! Calories: 294 kcal
